Every bride dreams of looking her best during her wedding – the trendy hairdo, the right amount of make-up, that rockin’ bod, and ohhh… the dress. The perfect wedding dress.
Here’s another embarrassing confession: as a kid, I used to (discreetly) flip through bridal magazines in search of the elusive ceremonial gown. As a young adult, I’d like to be able to say I’ve kicked the habit, but alas, it’s hard to resist Google’s temptations. If by any chance, you can relate to this past time of mine, boy have I got a treat for you!

You may be familiar with talented designer Celest Thoi’s pieces, as she had featured Pretty In White for ‘The Celestial Collection’ during MIFA ’09 as well as the launch of her very own label ‘Celest Thoi’ during the MIFA ’11 show: ‘The Celestial Spark Collection’.
Prior to launching her own label, Celest had previously set up TheWeddingSuite in Auckland back in the year 2004. After relocating with her family to Malaysia, Celest now continues offering her services to stylish and modern brides who are attuned to fashion and know exactly what they want, turning their envisioned designs into blissful reality.
We managed to catch up with with Celest over the weekend; check out what news she had in store for us…
How do you feel your design style has changed over the years?
I believe my design style hasn’t changed much over the years as I work on the philosophy of simplicity and elegance.
What wedding trends do you predict will be popular this year?
In my earlier interview with Steph in November 2011, I told her that the illusion neckline will be a hit this year (2012).
(This was her response then):
Lots of lace, layers and layers of tulle with horsehair braids and feathers to create that romantic and dreamy look. Illusion necklines (a sheer, delicate and often embellished layer of fabric covers the skin that would otherwise be exposed) would be a big hit as it can be really sexy yet at the same time, modest and demure.
(She predicted right!)
What is your favourite wedding trend?
My all-time favourite will be a modern cut gown with a touch of vintage. I love that little ‘old-fashioned’ element in a design.
What is your fallback personal preference?
I know it’s getting old coming from me but it’s gonna have to be ‘Simple, Elegant & Timeless’. There are many wedding themes and complementing designs out there. (It also depends) on the couple… the options are infinite! So as long as the bride doesn’t go overboard with ideas like garden design cross-over with Pirates of the Carribean or Star Wars, we’ll be fine.
Besides offering wedding gowns that are simply to die for, Celest also tempts her clients with other uniquely hand-crafted items such as exquisite ring pillows and custom-made heels that are sure to suit every bride’s fancy. Hang on, I saved the best news for last, ladies.
You can check out these items as well as her masterpieces at her new boutique in Publika!
And, here’s one last question we had for Celest Thoi…
Following your boutique opening in Publika, will you be featuring any new pieces?
Opening at Publika has kept us very busy with bespoke creations for individual clients. So no, there hasn’t been a new collection since then but we intend to launch a new collection every year end and already have a great theme for this year.As for what it is: watch this space coz we’ll let WGA and its followers know for sure!
These pieces sure are stunning, aren’t they? For more elegant designs, check out Celest Thoi’swebsite or get in touch via her directory page. Be sure to head on down to her showroom in Publika, Solaris Dutamas.
